When Communication Sabotages Creation
“We are often too busy communicating to think, create, or collaborate.” — Reclaiming Conversation, p. 319
Just recently, a colleague reacted to the fact that my work e-mail inbox contains 4,040 unread messages. “That would drive me nuts,” he told me. I replied that the number didn’t bother me; in fact, I told him, I’d like to think that this lofty number relates to having a decent filter for what is worth clicking on — at least that’s what I tell myself. Another personal e-mail account has 2,058 unread messages…
I couldn’t agree more, Paul. Do you not even bother to delete the unread messages just to give your computer a little space? We have become a reactionary culture. When we are reacting, we are much less likely to put forth fresh thought, better solutions, new ideas. We are becoming lemmings. I’m proud of you for raising this point. Hope you get some response. Love, Ivan.
Glad you want to honor solitude. It’s also when God can whisper to us. Xoxo
